Question
Faye, My husband and I are getting a 5-week old puppy this week. We have 2 small children and a third on the way. I have researched a lot about this animal. My only concern is about giving the puppy exercise. Other than taking him for a walk morning and night what can I do to keep him busy? We live in a small city( there are nature walks and close friends that are within a 15 min drive)plus I am a stay at home mom. Thanks for your advice

Answer
Dear Suzanne,
Other than having a reasonable amount of space to let your dog play in, get him toys too, or running a dog off of a bike, walks are your only options. Think carefully about this breed as it does require tons of excercise, you will never be able to walk them enough no matter how you try.
What I would really question is why are you getting the puppy at 5 weeks? It is way too young to leave its mother until 8 weeks. I would be very worried at the motives or ignorance of the breeder who was doing this. A puppy needs at least 8 weeks to be weaned and develop appropriate behaviours which his mother has to show him. I would never let a pup go at this tender age nor would I buy one. Hope this helps.
