Question
Hello,
My husband and I were considering an Alaskan Malamute puppy. We would love to have one with those lovely blue eyes. We were wondering if a puppy's eyes were blue will they change to brown as they mature.Or if they are brown, will they change to blue as they mature. Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon :)

Answer
My experience is more in Siberian Huskies, but eye color in Sibes usually don't change substantially between puppyhood and adulthood.  Slight discolorations are common, but generally, blue eyes will stay blue and brown will stay brown.  Parti-colored (blue and brown in the same eye) sometimes occur, but usually this is seen in adolescent dogs and again will see little change as the dog matures.  One thing that you may want to look into - for Alaskan Malamutes, blue eyes are a disqualification according to the standard.  Not a lot of people necessarily show their dogs, so people don't usually care about the "standard".  However, the reason that Malamutes have a rule against blue eyed dogs is because of possible problems that occur in light colored eyes (usually blindness or cataracts).  Siberian Huskies on the other hand, don't suffer from this problem and are allowed a full range of eye colors according to the breed standard.

Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, or would like to look further into the temperments and attitudes of the dogs, let me know.
