Question
Hi,
we have a 14 week old sibe male, he becomes a different dog when he eats. we can stand next to him but if you try to move your hand close to his bowl he goes for the hand. Yesterday my husband put a bit of dried salmon on his hand, when Yuki(our sibe) smelled the food he became so focused on the food that when it was gone and my husband was trying to take his hand away he went after his hand like trying to bite it. We just so worried that if he finds food outside and we'll try to take it away he will bite us. He gets fed 3 times a day, a cup each time. Could it be that it's not enough food for him?

Answer
No 3 cups is actually perfect, but on the bit to much side (depending on the food you feed). Your problem you have is is he is just to greedy. I would start making him sit and do tricks for his food. There is no reason for him to bite anyone. I don't know if he wasn't fed enough from where he came from and had to fight for his food (puppy mill style trough feeding) But he has to learn you give and take the food. Feed him his whole meal by hand once he bites, pick up everything and leave for 15 mins and try again. He will eventually understand that if he nails you, you will leave, and so will the food, instead of leaving him alone with his food (his version of self awarding) when he bites you. He was taught a very bad habit, and you need to re-teach his mind what he knows is wrong.
