A new puppy

Question
I've finally settled down in a town I'm going to be in for awhile, and I'm interested in getting a puppy.  I had a husky 5-8 years ago, and it was my all time favorite pet. I live in a quite a dog friendly town, (Steamboat Springs, Co) so I will have plenty of places to let the dog run.  I have a question about compatibility though; I live with two other dogs and several other people, so it's quite a full house.  The two dogs are an extremely mixed bred heeler that's about a year and a half to two years old, and an 11 week chocolate lab.  The older dog has some behavioral issues but has definitely been more well behaved since the puppy has come around.  Will this combination of dogs work well, I think a young husky would respond well to having a dog just a few weeks older, and a dog that's just coming into his own. All I know is that I'm hankering for a pet, and huskies have always struck a cord with me.
Thanks,
Russell

Answer
Sibes are extremely social animals - so more dogs around is not a bad thing.  Most dogs get into a solitary mode around 2-3 years old, so if a dog hasn't been introduced to living with other dogs, I might recommend against it.  However, if the two dogs currently seem to be getting along, introducing a Sibe shouldn't be a problem.  Just be careful with the interactions and let the dogs decide their own "pack order."  Also, not sure about sexes of the dogs, but remember that opposite sex dogs get a long better.  If you already have a male/female in the lab/heeler arrangement, then I guess it's your preference.  However, if the lab and heeler are the same sex, definitely get the opposite.  My personal preference would be the opposite of the lab, as they might be closer in age and form a closer bond this way.

Good luck and I think you are in a good position.  Just keep researching the breed and find a good breeder.
