Do I have a pure-bred husky

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I recently adopted a dog from a family who didn't want her anymore. She is a year old, has ice blue eyes and many physical husky features. However, she is already 55 pounds and I was told that the breeder said she would likely be 75. Her mom weighs this much. She has a lot of "puppy" energy. I say this because I do not see an excessive amount of energy. She runs and plays hard, but after about 45 minutes lays down to rest. She crashes around 7 or 7:30 each night and goes out to pee around 10:00, then sleeps all night. According to everything I have read about huskys I believe she may be mixed with another breed. I also recently met a dog that was a shepard/husky mix that looked almost identical to her.  If you would like I can send a picture.

It doesn't matter to me if she is a full bred or not, I love her just the same. I am mainly asking out of curiosity.

ANSWER: Sure send me a link to look at her pictures. She only sounds like a "giant" husky so far. Breeders who just breed to sell puppies, rather then caring for the health of the breed go for this unnatural size for a husky. It really isn't good for the joints and such since a husky isn't meant to be this big. A chiropractor I take my big fixed male to (because he got so big) says that they get really strange back problems when they are bred to big. (My boy is missing tissue that is supposed to pad the vertibae.)
Looking foward to seing your girl!

QUESTION: Hi Michelle,

Would a giant husky have less energy than a smaller one? She plays hard, but she definitely does not have excessive energy.  She has a vet appointment in May and I was going ot talk to the vet about possible things to watch for.

Here is a link to her photo album on Dogster. Thanks for your opinion.  http://www.dogster.com/dogs/637533/photos/1

Answer
She looks like a white husky that hails from racing lines, she has the long legs and the "finely boned" body. She doesn't look like a mixed breed to me.
Things to look out for. If they have a spinal or hip problem you will notice that they walk very gingerly on their back legs, or hop. Plus the flexibility that should be there isn't. (A do should be able to lap flat on their belly with their legs going strait back.) Also a trait you see is when they run they "bunny hop" it is when the back legs do not work independently when they run but rather do the same thing like a rabbit hopping. Thyroid is something that can be checked by your vet, it is usually accompanied by dry feeling hair and baldness in the rear end (like at the base of the tail). One reason a large husky might get tired faster then a smaller one is that a dog that gets 50% bigger losses 30% of the lung capacity, this is because the lungs do not get bigger with the body. This causes fatigue on the cellular level.
