Question
Hello! We got a 16 week old puppy from a friend of a friend who couldn't keep her in their apartment because the landlord said no. She said she bought her from a husky breeder as a 100% husky. she is now almost 5 months old and is only about 16 pounds. How big should a husky puppy be at this age? I would think bigger than that. Friends that have huskies don't believe she is 100% husky, they think she may be mixed with a bull terrier or something of that sort. I don't care either way, we love her and she is a great puppy, just wondering how big she might get and if she is 100% husky how big she should be at this age. She is healthy and happy. Thanks for any insight. B

Answer
It is possible that she will be a small girl. Generally at this age I would like to see her between 20 and 25 pounds. It isn't possible to know if she isn't pure bred just by weight alone. My smallest Siberian I ever owned was 29 pounds when she was full grown. She had an underlying health problem that didn't pop up till she was 6 months old however. This stunted her growth.  The smallest health pup I had was 35 pounds. These are all females, if it was a Male puppy I might seriously be questioning if she was a mixed breed, but it is probably just a little girl.
So if she is Healthy and is eating fine, I wouldn't worry!
