Question
We recently rescued a husky.  She is a little over a year old if I had to guess.  She is a great dog.  She does not seem to be afraid of anyone, but when she gets excited she urinates in small amounts as she goes through the house.  What can we do or will it pass as she matures?

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Congratulations on your new Husky.  I am so happy to hear you rescued a husky.

Your husky I believe is suffering from submissive urinating. One way to stop this is to develop good communication skills with the dog. Good communication includes not indulging in emotional greetings, avoid eye contact upon greetings, and avoid dominant posturing with the dog.

You also need to build a strong bond of trust between you and your dog. With the husky being a rescue dog, you might not know how the previous owners treated her.  Building trust and confidence can be accomplished by various touching exercises that can be highly beneficial for a dog with this type of problem.

And again over time it will pass, but don't punish her for doing this.  That is the worse thing you can do for submissive urinating.

I hope this helps answer your question.  If you have anymore question, please ask.

Thank you and Good Luck,
Laura
