Question -
i have 2 ?s first is that i have a husky that is almost a year old and have not seen her in heat would i have missed it second she looks horrible now almost all of her fur is coming off in big chunks, someone asked me if she had the mange, but she doent scratch or bite herself and it is not down to the skin is this normal she is my first husky and was unsuccessful at housetraining so she is outside. thanks

Hi Tracy,

Some Female dogs go into heat as earlier as 6 months to as late as 14 months.  I don't think you should really worry about it just yet.  As far as the shedding, huskies can shed in big chunks, especially if she is an outside dog.  You should give her a bath and start brushing her a couple times a week.  This will losing the outer coat up and get rid of those nasty chunks.

Can I ask what method were you trying to house-train your husky with?

I hope this answers your questions.  If you have anymore questions, please ask.

Thank you and Good luck,
Laura

Answer
Hi Tracy,

Have you ever got her checked out to make sure she doesn't have a urinary infection?  That might be the problem.  Another one might be that she still smells the scent of her urine in the house, so she still using the carpet as a bathroom.  Many owners don't get the urine scent out of the carpet very well and it results in the dog still eliminating in the house.  It isn't impossible to house-train a dog, but it does get very frustrating when things aren't going smoothly.  Maybe leaving her out longer or more exercise will help.

Thanks,
Laura
