Question
we have a four month old huskie. yesterday we took him to my grandparents house and we were playing with him in and around the pond and there house is surrounded by woods which he was playing around hte border of... yesterday on our way home his mouth started to salivate and foam heavily and then he had a siezure. we took him to the emergency vet hospital and they did blood work on him and everything and it all came out normal. we think he might have ate soemthing that was poisonous... so then the vet sent us home after three hours of being there and then this morning he had anohter siezure. so we took him to our normal vet and they are doing blood work on him now and running an IV through him to flush his system and doing a liver and kidney test on him. are siezures typical in huskies? and esp at such a young age? is there anything you think he might have gotten into in that area that could cause this? what can we do?

~ thanks for your help

Answer
Dear Kelly Ann,
I feel for you with your nasty experience and I do hope your pup gets better. Seizures can be very alarming. Huskies as a breed are a very strong trouble free breed in general, but some thing like this can happen and would be a precurser to perhaps somthing very nasty in your pup. But as I said this is a rare occurance. My guess is though that your dog did get into something whilst he was playing outside. Not knowing what grows in your area leaves me to guess, but I have one dog who just loves to eat hallucinigenic mushrooms and will not leave them alone. My guess is he ate something like this, and these things can be hard to trace in blood tests. They used to use them in the medievel days to poison or kill because once administered they work away and they did not have an antidote. Perhaps it was somthing of this nature which your dog ate. Little puppies eat all sorts of things to see if they can. I hope this helps, it sounds like you are doing all the right things to get it solved.
