runny nose - productive

Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old all white female husky - a wonderful dog.  For the past month or so she has been wheezing and sneezing.  More recently, the sneezing has become very productive and smelly.  I've been to the vet 3 times in the past 3 weeks.  An examination always indicates her lung and heart are fine.  However, she's lost 3 pounds in 3 weeks - I attribute most of this to her lack of appetite.  At the last vet visit, after I told the vet that the stuff coming out of her nose is sometimes dark and bloody colored, the vet gave me a stong antibiotic -1/day for 14 days.  It's been a week now and the sneezing has not lessened significanlty (I haven't witnessed her wheezing in the past week), and although no longer bloody colored, it is still foul smelling.  My entire house smells.  I have to clean floors everyday to wipe up the dried drippings from her sneezing. In addition, I have to clean "sneeze drippings" off her fur a couple of times a day.

The vet suggested that our dog may have inhaled something through her nose or that a bug or something else crawled up her nose, and that the only way to know for sure is to perform a rhinoscopy and an MRI.  Sounds pretty invasive right now, but I'm also at the point that I don't know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Dear Christy,
I would be very concerned about your girl's nose. It sounds as though she has a very nasty infection, and the antibiotics have failed to work, I would be making great haste to investigate it further and swiftly. I feel that you may have to be a bit invasive as unfortunate as it is to solve her problem. What has caused this is anybody's guess, but I would get it seen to quickly. A friend of mine had an older siberian with similar symptoms it turned out that she had a very aggressive cancer which was inoperable. Still I think in your pup the idea of infection is far more likely. Get her to the vet right away.
I hope she gets better soon.
