Question
Hey Michelle, I have a six year old female, spayed. She is an inside dog. receives two walks a day, lots of playtime in the evening.

Currently she is fed r/d. receives 3-6 diet treats per day. no table food.

Fitzi currently weighs approximately 60lbs. When I got her she weighed about 40. What is the secret to weight loss?

Thank you.

Jeff

Answer
The one problem with a spayed pet is that for some reason, the motabolizum gets real lazy. R/D is science diet right? You may want to swich her food, it has alot of fillers that do not give much nutrition, but it has pleanty of calories. Like drinking soda, or eating a twinky. Foods I recommend is Canidae, Call of the wild, Evo, Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul, and Timberwolf Organics.

When giving a dog the suggested amount on the bag, cut it by 1/3 or by half. If they are gaining weight cut there food intake some more. If they keep losing weight give them more food when they hit the ideal weight (you should be able to feelt the dogs ribs by running your hands doen the dogs side, you should be able to feel the seperation in the ribs without applying a lot of pressure but there should be a small layer of fat so you cannot see the ribs). A husky was bred to do alot of work on little food. They do not need the same amount of food that a dog of the same size needs, that is why there are so many overweight huskies.

Anymore questions please ask!
