Question
Hello........I am adopting 2 Siberian Huskies on wed. 5/9/07. The mother, CoCo,is 2.5 yrs, the daughter, Cinful,is 11 mo. The mother was found in a landfill scrounging for food about a year ago. The fellow that I am adopting them from found her. He said she was real thin and sickly, and later found out she was pregnant. Well he took her in and got her healthy and she had 9 healthy pups. Long story short...he is transfering and I am adopting the dogs. The dogs are not well trained, CoCo is housebroken, but neither are crate trained. Actually at this point they are just really funny a goofy together. Is this going to be highly difficult to train these two to behave together? I work @ home, so time is not an issue for me.  Also, I have a 15 yr old cat, that bearly likes me, let alone other animals. How should I go about introducing them to each other?

Answer
Hi Glenda,

You should have no problem training the two to behave.  As the puppy gets older it will get easier.  As far as other animals in the household.  Some huskies don't do well with small animals including cats.  So until you know for sure how the huskies will act with a cat, don't leave it alone with the dogs.  Keep all small animals away from the huskies.  In closed rooms or up high.  With introducing the cat to the dogs make sure you have the cat in you arms and slowly show the dogs the cat.  Let them sniff the cat, but don't allow them to bite it.  If they bite it than take the cat away and put it in a different room away from the dogs.  It will take some time for all the animals to get use to each other, but everything should work out.

Well congrats on the two new family members.  I hope you will enjoy them.

If you have anymore questions, please ask.

Thanks and Congrats,
Laura
