Question
QUESTION: Hi Michelle, I have read a great deal of questions on your site and have a greater understanding of my sibes. However, within the last week or our female (17 wks) will not allow the male to eat. She won't eat either. Everytime he tries she goes to his bowl and acts as if she is going to eat from his bowl, so he backs off. But she doesn't eat his food, and will go back to her bowl and just sit there. Whats ironic is that she will not her food in her own bowl either. Sometimes all it takes is a look from her and the male will not eat. If we stand between them then they will eat. Whats happening?

ANSWER: She is being domanante the Alpha controlls the food. You will have to step in and tell her this is unecceptiable. You are the Alpha and he can eat because you say so. Feed him first and keep her an a leash with you. When he is done crate him away from her (or just keep him in a diffrent room so she cannot controll his actions and feed her.

QUESTION: Thank you have confirmed my suspicions. But why isn't she eating her food first and then allowing him to eat? Are you saying that she is so controling that if she is not hungry she will not allow him to eat either? Isn't that a sign of agression?

Answer
No she is saying she is the boss and that is it.

It would be like a husband and wife out together running errands. The husband wants to stop and get something to eat. But the wife isn't hungry so they don't stop. She isn't being aggressive but she is controlling the situation. Controlling doesn't equal aggression. Just like Alpha doesn't equal aggressive. True Alpha dogs are NEVER aggressive.
