Right type of crate

Question
We were given a female Husky. She is crate trained but they used a plastic pet taxi. She sleeps in it at night. My sister thinks that a wire crate would be better. She says they have more room for the dog to stretch out and move around. I'm not sure how shell do when she has full view from a wire crate. I'm also not sure about the space issue. Our old Husky always slept in a compact ball anyway. What size size/type crate would you recommend?

Answer
Plastic crates are usually liked better (because they simulate a den better) and are safer. If you end up using a wire crate make sure your dog has its collar off at all times (my friend had a puppy she sold choked to death in a wire kennel because her collar got stuck.) Also secure the wire kennel so they cannot attempted to get out (wire kennels have been recalled because the dogs unhook one corner of the kennel and attempt to squeeze out, only to get stuck and the sharp corners cut and choke the dog.).
Another plus the the plastic crate is they cant see so good so they are less likely to see something that makes them want out. Size wise get one that is about 24 inches tall. One that is recommended for a medium sized dog the one that usually says husky on them is to big (Plus the doors are weak). -Michelle B
