CHRONIC DIARRHEA IN SIBERIAN HUSKY PUPPY

Question
I hope there is help for us. I made a very bad mistake and adopted a little female siberian husky from a pet store. I knew better but was drawn to this little pup. The minute we brought her home she had diarrhea. No big deal. I figured she probably had worms. I took her to the local vet and he said she had giarrdia. We gave her the metroniazole for one week. No improvement. We repeated the medication with no improvement in the diarrhea. The vet then put her on a 5 day course of dewormer which of course increased the diarrhea. We have completed that medication and the diarrhea is as bad as when we brought her home. We have another appointment with the vet today. We have had her for 5 weeks and nothing has changed. I have also tried a chicken and rice diet, probiotics... The puppy is now 14 weeks old. I am starting to lose faith that I can conquer this problem. I will take any advice anyone has to offer. I am desperate. Trying to keep her clean is next to impossible. Please help!!!!!

Thanks,
Phylann

Answer
My keyboard keeps dying this will be my 4th attempt to answer this question lol.

For the vet checklist
Parvo
Compy
coccidia

For you
24hour fast period for your pup (water is still provided)
start the bland diet again. Ground turkey or beef with rice, no seasoning boiled in water, make sure everything is cooked through. Small amounts of food 4 times a day. (1 cup) for 2 weeks. Also add acidophiles pills, 2 times a day 1 in the morning and 1 at night. If you do antibiotics, if the vets sends some home, 1st feeding antibiotic, 2nd feeding acidophiles and keep flip flopping the pills each feeding. The antibiotic kills the acidophiles if you give it at the same time.
After 2 weeks keep the bland diet but add a scoop of canned pumpkin or sweet potatoes every other feeding. (Make sure not to give the puppy any treats or human food since it contains spices which will upset the puppies stomach.

Another possibility is that the puppy has food allergies to certain meats. Since you said the chicken didn't work avoid chicken. When week 3 of the diet, start mixing a dog food in and decrease the # of feedings to 3 times a day. Use a food that DOES NOT contain

SOY
WHEAT
CORN/MAZE
BEET PULP

Try going with a grain free food or a food that only uses Rice and Sorghum as a grain, since these grains can be digested by a dog.
Here are a list of foods that I suggest I will keep away from Chicken.

Grain Free Pure Sea, the protein source in this is Salmon

Grain free Pure Land, Protein source in this one is Bison and Lamb

Grain Free Pure Sky, Protein Source in this one is Duck and Turkey

I would try fish first. then go down the list. They sell them in 5 lb bags so when it is time you can see if they work and it won't break you. Feed with the bland but only give quarter of what is recommended per feeding the goal is to get her on the food and off the bland diet so slowly increase the food and decrease the bland. When she is on regular food only feed her 2 times a day and do not over feed her because it can start this problem all over again. .. If one protein source upsets her stomach immediately stop it and go back on just bland diet for 4 days then try another food.

Here is a store locator.
