Hi Karen,

With a new puppy and an older dog it takes some time to adjust.  If the older husky hasn't had another dog in the household then he isn't use being jumped on all the time by another dog.  Don't try to force them to get along right away.  Keeping the separate while you aren't around it a good idea, but when they are together just keep a close eye on them.  It will take some time for them to get along.  Just try to stop the puppy from jumping on the older husky until they get use to each other.

When you are at school or work, you need to crate the puppy and put him in a different area of the house until the two huskies get along.  Just make sure when you are home, you aren't giving all the attention to the puppy.  The older dog is just trying to tell him that he is the big dog and he better back off.  Everything should work out soon, especially when the puppy gets a little older and bigger.

I hope this helps.  If you have anymore question please ask.

Thank you,
Laura

Answer
Hi Karen,

One way to reduce the jumping is to keep the puppy on a leash indoor while he is around the older dog.  This should help train him not to jump up on the older dog.   It is hard to train a 11 week old puppy because he is so young.  Also don't let the dogs out together. Just try to keep the puppy away from the older dog until his stress level has reduced.

With a puppy in the household with the older dog it creates stress on the older dog.  The stress then can make the dog aggressive.  Many people don't recommended getting a puppy with and older dog because of this.

Also provide a lot of toys for the puppy to play with.  This will get his attention off wanting to jump all over the older dog.

I hope this helps.  I know it is stressful with everyone with two dogs in the house not getting along.  It just takes time.

If you have anymore question, please ask.

Thank you,
Laura
