Question
This week i brought home a new alaskan husky and my old huskey of 10 yrs old was doing ok with him. Until he tried to join her in her basket and my female (older huskey) bute him in the face. What should I do? Will they get along?

Answer
Hi Melinda,

Yes, they will soon get along.  It is hard at first when you bring a new puppy home.  Huskies love to be with other dogs.  The only problem owners have when introducing a new puppy to there other dogs is fighting.  The thing about huskies is dominance.  There is always a dominant dog (female or male).  Your female is just telling your puppy she is the dominant one and that that basket is hers.  I would suggest picking up another basket for the puppy to sleep in if you haven't already.  Watch them closely for a week or two.  Especially around food and toys.  Your female has to get use to the fact that there is another dog in the household.  Remember to give attention to both the dogs equally, so your female doesn't feel like the puppy is taking her "mom" away from her.

If you have anymore questions please ask.  Good luck and Congrats on the new puppy.

Thanks,
Laura
