Question
Dear Michelle,

my 10 year old son wants a dog so I explained him about the responsibility and he said he  could handle it. Then I asked him what dog he wants and he said a husky, then I told him that there are different types of Huskys. Can you help me pick the right one. Here is some information on what he wants. He wants a cute male baby Husky that is friendly with kids. We live in ON Canada, and my son mostly is busy but has some time. So we want a Husky that is not going to have bad behavior when he is alone. Thank you and please get back to us ASAP.

Answer
If you want to try him out on a animal that has a shorter lifespan first to you aren't stuck taking care of a dog for 12 years. I know some people do this.
What do you mean by types of huskies? Do you mean Siberian Huskies Sledding lines vs Show lines (They have diffrent builds)

Or do you mean Alaskan Husky (Which is any cross with a Husky, a mixed breed dog) Or a Canadian Husky (these are actually agressive dogs and shouldn't be kept for a pet)

To figure out if the dog is good with kids, find a local breeder and go see the dogs, and the puppies. You will know how the Husky will be by how the parents act. The only way you can get a dog to be good when you are gone is to train it religously. Huskies are known for being trouble makers. Proper exercize also helps the dog to behave itself "A tired dog is a happy dog". So he will have to take the dog for walks with Huskies one in the morning and one in the evening is great!
