Question
I have a 3 month old husky/malamute, he has very little malamute in him, he is very sketchy. he is good with other dogs, and eating and even with our little bird. But with people he is not so great, with our family he is good. But with friends and people he doesn't know he yelps and growls and has even snapped a few times. I have one friend that sometimes he's good with and others he won't go near or he'll just freak out and try to bite him.
Help?

Answer
Patricia,

At this age, skittishness around other people isn't all too uncommon.  There are two things to do, and I suggest you start them immediately:

1) Obedience training.  It's better in a social setting (group classes) with a reliable trainer.  This extra interaction will help him be more comfortable around people.  It will also give you more control over the dog to be able to do #2.

2) Get your dog socially acclimated.  Take him everywhere.  Walks, stores, the park, etc.  The more people he can meet at this age, the better.  Don't necessarily force too much interaction, but you want him to be around people as much as possible.

#1 is the most important right now, and I would suggest a trainer who is good with high-drive dogs who may be mildly aggressive towards people.  There are ways to help that, but a trainer is the best one to help show you the ropes there.
