Establishing Alpha

Question
Hi there,

Just curious at what age huskies are likely to establish which one is dominant over another.
We have a female that is 1yr of age and a male who is 3 months.  I wonder at what age has the dominance been established by?  I mean for the most part the puppy just wants to play I don't think anything's been established at this point yet.

Answer
Completely depends on the dogs.  Pups in the same litter usually have a working pack order by two or three weeks of age.  Interactions between adult dogs and puppies usually take longer, but it actually has a lot to do with the size of the dogs.  Once the male is larger than the female, he will most likely feel a little safer deciding what his position is in the pack.  That's not to say he will be the lead dog - actually, a lot of females can hold that position, but generally you won't see it until the pup has matured enough to a size and physical strength level are similar to other members of his pack.
