Question
Hi!
I am about to a adopt a 4year old husky, female.
But i'm quite worried about my 14year old pomeranian
and a 2year old mongrel. The femail pomeranian has been living with us since she was a puppy and the mongrel as well. im afraid that the husky will not be welcomed into the family. i live in a private house in singapore and i do have quite a big space with shelter to park up to 3 cars and 2 garden, one which is taken up by the mongrel, leaving one at with a small grass patch. what can i do to introduce the new husky to my existing dogs! im afraid they will fight and even more afraid that the old pomeranian will be injured as its... quite old and sad to say.. gonna pass. is there any method to introduce them easily.
and yeah, i read how about husky having the tedency to dig! im thinking of having the grass patch of the graden to be made into a sandy area for the husky to dig. will that be alright ?

thanks for helping me out!

Answer
Unfortunately, introduction of dogs is a tough thing to manage because there are too many persoanlties and tendencies to measure - especially with a new animal.  Huskies are generally very friendly, very energetic and very playful.  This is good in that Huskies are not USUALLY the agressor in a situation, but you have to be careful.  I don't know personalties of Pomeranians nor your mutt, so you'll have to judge that.  Usually, meeting in neutral areas is the best, and introducing slowly is key.  Also, introcution with a fence between the animals can be helpful.  Additionally, dogs respond to owner reactions, so don't necessarily correct growling and posturing.  That can add fuel to the fire.  Instead, only intervene if it becomes aggressive.  If a dog snaps at another, you have to judge if its a warning or an intent to injure.  Warnings are fine, injury is not.

And, sand areas to dig is a good idea, just make sure it can't dig out.
