my 5 mo old mae husky has diarrhea

Question
our 5 mo old male has had diarrhea for almost 2 days now. to our knowledge he hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't have, and we haven't changed his food or anything like that. i am worried about him and wanted to know if there's anything i can do or if i should take him to the vet. we have him outside through the day and bring him inside at night. as i am not always outside with him i'm not 100% sure he didn't eat something but i didn't see him. just wondering what it could be. i don't believe he has parvo as he is eating normal and not throwing up and no bloody diarrhea. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

Answer
Brandi,

If the dog appears to be acting normal otherwise, diarrhea isn't a huge issue if it's isolated.  Try a rice/chicken broth diet to see if that helps his stools - sometimes, much like humans, it's just a small bug that takes a few days to get over.  If you don't see it clear up in several days, it gets worse, or there is a significant change in the behavior of the dog, then take him to the vet.  If however, the dog is active and acting normal, and the stools stay loose for a week or so, but aren't really runny, you have very little to worry about.  Also, you may want to bring him in during the day as well, as the warmer summer weather can often make the dog ill.
