Husky Cross Breed-Siberian & Malamute

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I adopted an approx. 2yr. old Husky cross female last year.  She is super-friendly and has a great personality.  She is also super strong and obviously will try anything to run free. Unfortunately, b/c she is so friendly, she visits with people who don't necessarily want her around and has no problem jumping into the Dog Catcher's vehicle as she loves car rides too.  She has broken many collars, and has managed to slip out of her harness on more than 1 occasion.  I live in the country and she has a long leash, as well, I've confined her to a large chain link fenced area around what used to be our in-ground pool(it's empty).  There is grass, shade, concrete and she has access to the garage as well.  However, she has managed to dig under the fence twice to escape.  Smart doggie!
Question is...do u have any suggestions on how i can contain her more efficiently when I am at work?  And another question is about what kinds of things I should be feeding her?  She always brings back parts of animals on her excursions. (deer parts, moose etc.) I'm wondering if I should be feeding her meat, soup bones, etc from the grocery store...raw or cooked?
Thanks, I'd appreciate any input.

ANSWER: Where she digs holes. Place her poop in the bottom of the holes before you fill them back up. One thing that works wonders is an electric fence (not cattle amped it might kill your dog, but put it on a setting that would deter a coyote). You run it along top of the chain link and also bout 6 inches above the ground along the whole inside of the chain link enclosure. She won't think about getting close enough to dig. Another thing you can do is burry chicken wire along the whole inside of the enclosure, dogs don't like the feel of it pulling on their nails.
She is trying to get out because she is bored, you might want to try giving her things to play with like a Kong, and Everlasting Treat ball or Rawhides.
Be sure to de-worm her when she brings those kind of prizes home. Raw hamburger, chicken (barf diet), and fish (NOT ALBACORE OR TUNA there is one more fish I know they cannot have but I cant think of it right now I belive it is Smelt). Hard bones are really appreciated by dogs....but they break teeth and removals can be very expensive. Never feed raw Foul bones, they splinter and your dog can choke on them, chicken bones are only good to give raw they break more evenly then and aren't much of a danger to your dog. I feed my dogs a top quality dog food mixed with a raw diet. I also give mine fruits and veggies (apples, carrots, peas ect) never feed Onions, raisins, Grapes (causes anemia) and chocolate (severe high blood pressure). Dogs need more then just meat.
Thanks!

QUESTION: Thanks for the advice.  I bailed her out of doggie jail again today...so I am trying a buckle type collar and a new harness until I add your suggestions to the hole under the chainlink fence.
About her food, presently I feed her dry Iams lamb & rice...I picked up some wet canned to mix with it.  I've tried veges with her, but she doesn't seem interested.  So far, I've only given her the odd steak and/or ham bone.  I didn't think chicken was a good plan.  I don't know what a Kong is and am not sure if I can buy it in Canada?  She gets rawhide and has a few play toys, but mostly seems interested in the bones.  So raw meat?

Answer
I wouldn't feed Iams. It is to high in calories. What you need for a large dog is Protein to fuel the muscles not calories. Try a food like, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Gold Medal, Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul, Natures Balance (the meat logs) or Wellness.
The only problem I have with the canned food is that they cook it. When you cook meat you lose most of the beneficial enzymes in the food (even the ones in raw meat that help clean the teeth).
Here is a site on the Kong toy. I wouldn't know what to do without one.
