Shaving Siberian Huskies

Question
I have a 10 yr old Siberian Husky who has lived in Phoenix, AZ area last 8 years.  Am thinking of shaving her to help with the non-stop shedding.  Do you think shaving would, indeed, help slow or stop the shedding process or would she just shed shorter hair?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jane,

DO NOT SHAVE HER.  That is a number the worse thing you can do.  You have to deal with her shedding.  That is a down fall of owning a husky.  Shedding during the summer or winter helps them keep cool or warm.  Huskies have two coat layers.  If you shave her then she can't control her body temperature.  This will make her uncomfortable.  Plus she will never look the same again.  You think shedding is bad, but having a dog look like she has skin/hair disease is worse.  And in the summer her skin will get sunburned.  I would recommended getting her professional groomed to help reduce the shedding.

If you have anymore questions, please ask.  And please don't shave her.

Thanks,
Laura
