Question
Hi,

We adopted a 10 month old Siberian Husky and, after she had been with us for approximately three weeks, she started chewing the furniture (we've now learned to keep shoes and papers away from her!).  The difference in this situation is that she tends to chew at night, NOT during the day when we're at work (or very seldom does she she chew during the day).  We've increased her exercise immediately before bed, but have had little success.

Do we have to crate her at night?

Will she grow out of this chewing habit (she's now almost 1 year)?

Answer
Hi Meghan,

I am so sorry that is has taken me so long to respond.  I have had a big emergency with my son and have been away from home for sometime.

You might want to crate her during the night.  Dogs really don't stop all there puppy behavior until they reach 2 years old.  Huskies love to chew EVERYTHING.  That is why a lot of owners have to crate them when they leave huskies unsupervised.  Where does she sleep at night?  If you let her roam the house during the night, then of course she will chew on things.  Again you might want to think about crating her or having her sleep in your bedroom with the door shut.  I hope this answers your question.

If you have anymore questions, please ask.  And again I am so sorry if has taken me so long to reply.

Thank you and Good Luck,
Laura
