Question
My dog is about to be 7 months old and I was wondering what the lowest and highest temp. she could stand being outside.  We have a house made for her and we put pine bedding in there with her but I just want to make sure she's safe.  I also read that we should put old blankets in there for her to lay on also to stay warm.  Please reply. Thanks (:

Answer
Seeing as winter is coming, make sure she always has access to water, get a large heated bowl make sure it is always filled. Increase her feedings and number of feedings if you can. A larger feeding in the morning and night and a smaller one during the day. I would still bring her inside, if possible, during the night until she is over one.
What temperature she can stand depends on the dog, because just like each person is different each Siberian has a different coat density, and heat and cold tolerances. If you notice her shivering and lifting her feet (Some times they only lift their feet)and holding a paw up in the air her body temp is to low. Keep an eye on her she will let you know. If she is true to her heritage she will stay outside even in the worse of weather, which isn't always the best thing. Even the Chukchi brought their dogs in at night (the people who developed the Siberian Husky).

In Hot weather I limit my dogs indoor time starting at about 80 F (my dogs are all kept indoors all year round) I break out the kiddy pool at 70 F they stand in it to keep their feet cool. Plenty of water is offered I have dishes to drink out of supplied along with the kiddy pools of water (I place one in the front yard and one in the back yard) and I move the outdoor houses under the shade of the trees, in the winter I sit them against the house as a wind break, from the north wind, in sunny spots (even though my dogs as I mentioned are indoors). In the summer time I clean all water bowls daily, and the kiddy pools every other day, to prevent giardia. In the winter I clean them every other day and inspect the wires on the bowls.
