Question
My siberian female husky is very over weight and i feed her only once a day, and i try to jog her to make her lose wieght but she has troubles losing it. How much should i be feeding her?

Answer
Depends on the type of kibble you are using.  If she is gaining weight, then you are feeding her too much is the simple answer.  To give you a reference point, I feed my dogs a super-premium kibble (Pro-Pac) and they are fed twice a day.  We use a standard kitchen 1/2-cup measuring cup.  They each receive one scoop at each feeding plus a small supplement once a day (usually a piece of cheese or meat with it).  Each dog eats for a whole day - one measuring cup of food.  A 33 lbs bag of food lasts me about 6 weeks.  The back of the bag suggests feeding each dog something like 4 cups of food per day, which is about 4 times too much.

The secret is that Siberians have extremely efficient metabolisms and don't need nearly as much food as you might think.  Since your dog has probably been fed more lately, you'll have to wean her off the excess kibble slowly, changing maybe about 5-10% less every few days until she is eating less.  To give you an idea, both of our dogs are in the 50-55 lbs range, so if your dog is bigger or smaller framed, you may need to adjust the 1-cup measurement, as well as the type of kibble you are using.
