Weird looking siberian!

QUESTION: Dear Michelle

I've got a question regarding my aunt's siberian husky. I own a pedigree Siberian and she meets the SH standards 100% according to size, shape, height, colour etc.

Now, My aunt has one, but the husky is so small. She does have a blue and a brown eye, but her colour on her back looks like that of a german shepherd. the rest of her body is covered in white. She has a curly tail like an alaskan malamute. She doesn't look husky at all. Is she some kind of miniture or another time of dog or even crossed with another  breed? She is really tiny compared to my sibe.

ANSWER: What you are explaining sounds like a Saddle back or piebald Siberians. Siberians can come in any color and any patten. Female sibes should top out at 50 pounds at the most I have seen some weighing in at 23 lbs and seemed like giant Klee Kais. Siberians are supposed to be a medium sized dog that even the males should not weigh more then 55lbs if bred by a breeder who is actually sticking to the standard. I fix any that are more then 23 1/2 inches high at the withers. Being on the smaller side of the standard isn't a bad thing. Huskies also come with curly (gay) tails. It isn't correct to standard but isn't a serous fault. If you look at the Siberian standard that they bred for in the 60's they actually bred for the curly tail. They did that until they thought curly tail= bad hips. That was found to be a false belief by the OFA.

QUESTION: Thank you for the answer. The saddle back siberian looks more like her. I checked it out on Google images. However, there is still the size of the siberian that bothers me. My siberian has a shoulder height of about 58 cm and the other siberian's shoulder height is almost that of a fox terrier or approx. 40cm. Her paws are more like that of a normal white german shepherd. Why is she so small?

40cm is about 15.5 inches. This is possible, not unheard of. It is a small girl. that 23lb girl I mentioned was only 14inches tall not much shorter then the girl you are asking about. This shrinking can be created by healthy unrelated lines thew selective breeding. It also can be created by massive inbreeding. Another option is that this girl was severely ill and her growth was stunted, but that would have to be deduced by your vet. -Michelle B ^^
