Husky Chewing on Tail

Question
My Siberian HUsky (17 months old) is chewing on his tail.  He did this before (about 4 months ago, when he was doing his first casting).  Is this something to do with casting? He stopped after he had chewed most of his fur of his tail and a little of his hind quarters. He never drew blood.  How can I stop him from doing this?  Is there a spray? We have a neck collar that keeps him from doing it but I hate to see him in this thing.

Answer
You might want to see if he is allergic to his food, for that ask your vet. Or do you see it as a learned behavior, if it is you dog is bored and has to much pent up energy. In this case your dog needs a job and more exercise. A tired dog that has satisfying mental stimulus will not resort to self mutilation. -Michelle B ^^
