Question
QUESTION: I have two 9 week old female huskies.  I walk and slow jog with them seperately.  One is great and stays beside me the whole time, the other pulls, as if she was the lead dog.  How do I train her to heel and walk/run beside me and to quit pulling?

ANSWER: Do you want to know how to teach the heel peroid. Or do you just want to know how to work it into high speeds? I am guessing you trained your other dog. To get them into higher speeds it takes a while you will have to teach them heel at the normal walking speed and then slowly work them into a higher speed. -Michelle B

QUESTION: I would like for them to heel first.  They both jog fine, but one pulls when just walking and the other heels fine.  Again, I walk them seperately.

Answer
The first step to training a heel is by making them think that being next to you is the most rewarding thing. Using food while standing still the first step can be done in your livingroom. Everythime your dog stops pulling and is beside you hand them a treat. The next step is while walking slowly give them a treat when they are next to you. Then you slowly build up the speed using this. Every time they revert back to pulling go back a step.
Quick ways of getting them not to pull is using equipment such as a Halti, or sensation (no pull) harness. The Halti is the best one but it take the dog the longest to get used to. -Michelle B
