Question
My fiance and I adopted Nova who is a Sibe/Mal mix from the humane society a few months back. We tried getting him a squeaky toy, but when it squeaks he whines and carries the toy off to lick it. The only thing we could think of is that he thinks it is being hurt when it squeaks. He shies away from anything being thrown or anyone making a throwing motion. The humane society did not have a history since no one turned him over, they just found him and I can only guess he was abused by a previous owner because of his behavior. By his Houdini-like nature I'm guessing he ran away as well.
Of course, given his breed he is very energetic and has to have something to occupy him or he becomes destructive in his boredom (it took two pillow cushions, a "beware of dog" sign, newspapers, three plastic cups, and several planters to figure it out). He loves his kong filled with frozen peanut butter, but gets bored with it once the peanut butter is gone. Is it safe or even healthy for him to have so much peanut butter and what other kinds of toys could we get him since balls and squeaky toys don't work? Please help. His boredom is causing him to escape more frequently and I don't want anything to happen him.

Answer
Well, you do need to escape proof (or resistant) your yard.  Siberians are master escape artists and notorious wanderers, so do what you can there.  If you need help or ideas, email me and let me know there.

Peanut butter isn't bad for dogs, but too much of anything can be a problem.  As far as other toys, bones are often a good idea and generally pretty healthy for the dogs since there isn't much to actually eat on them.  But they can often keep a dog occupied for several hours while gnawing on them.  And don't worry, I have one Sibe that LOVES squeaky toys and balls, the other one - she only likes things that taste good.
