huskys hair wont grow back

Question
Hello, we just adopted two huskies and they are about 8 yrs. old.  While at their previous owner, a groomer shaved one of the huskies during the summer and now his hair has not grown back and it's been a couple of years now that it's been like that.  He looks mangy and the vet says that he doesn't have any illness.  Is there anything that we can do to help his situation?

Answer
Hi Michele,

No, there really isn't anything you can do.  That is why an owner should NEVER shave their husky.  Huskies have a double coat and if they shave it off it won't grow back the same.  I don't know what was in the previous owners head when they decided to shave a husky.  That is a big mistake.  It is something you are going to have to deal with.  It might eventually grow back and look normal, but again it will take a number of years.  I also might look a little more mangy since they are shedding.

I enclosed a website about why not to shave your husky.

I hope this helps.  I am sorry I wasn't much help, but there a certain thing people need to know before owning an husky and this is one of them.  It isn't your fault.

Good Luck and Congrats on the new members.  If you have anymore questions please ask.

Thanks,
Laura
