Question
QUESTION: MY HUSKY FEMALE STARTED IN THE SUMMER LOOSEING HAIR WITH A BAD ODER. NOW THAT WINTER IS HERE THE HAIR HAS GROWN BACK. I BATH HER AND THE NEXT DAY SHE SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING DIED. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PROBLAME CAN BE. IT ISNT A HOT SPOT I DO NO THAT AND SHE IS ABOUT 4YEARS OLD. THIS JUST STARTED THIS SUMMER. MY OTHER TWO DOGS ARE FINE. I HAVE A LAB ANA A 1YEAR OLD HUSKY THAT IS HER PUPPY. COULD U TELL ME IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLAME. I EVEN TALKED TO VETS. IT WAS NO HELP. PLEASE HELP! I NOW CALL HER STINKY AND SHE ANSWERS:-( I NEED MY PRETTY GIRL BACK. THANK YOU SHERRY

ANSWER: Well it could be quite a few things.

Allergic Dermatitis
Mange
Hypothyroidism (hormonal imbalance)
Allopecia caused by ringworm
Follicular Dystrophy
Cushing's disease
Zinc Deficiency
Zinc responsive dermitass

You will have to get a vet to run the tests for each one. I know you said  your vet didn't listen, then it is time to get a new vet. I would start with her thyroid, then that dies the dead skin cells build up and do not shed off, this will be a blood test. If it is any of these, I wouldn't breed her or her daughter anymore (unless it is ringworm because that is an infection all the rest are problems that can be genetically handed down.)

If you have any more questions please ask!

QUESTION: since it has been so long and my other dogs haven't got it couldn't i rule out the mange?

Answer
No their is 2 diffrent types of Mange
Demodectic mange
Sarcoptic mange

Demodectic is a hereditary type of mange that a dog is born with they only transfer it to their offspring. Depending on a dogs immune system they can appear completely normal for quite a while until there immunity is not working properly for whatever reason then they will show they have it. I bought a Siberian with demodectic and know this is true none of my other dogs came down with it. It passes through the skin from mother to the unborn puppies inside of her before they are born and the puppies ingest them as they nurse on the mother dog who is infested. This mite lives DEEP in the skin tissue and is very hard to get rid of, and sometimes hard to diagnose. I had to put my girl down that had it because she only got worse instead of bettr with treatments.

The Sarcoptic mange is contangous and this might can travel from dog to dog, this might lives on the surface and just below the skin. This form is very easy to treat and detect.

Both types of mange can be found useing a skin scrape test.
