Question
HI! I HAVE AN 8 YEAR OLD CAT THAT STARTED TO GET BLACK STUFF ON HIS CHIN. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST FOOD OR SOMETHING, BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE-POSSIBLY INFECTED. HE ALSO STARTED LICKING HIS BACK LIKE CRAZY AND IS NOW MISSING MOST OF THE FUR ON HIS BACK. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THAT HIS STOMACH IS MOSTLY BALD AS WELL.  IT SEEMS ANYWHERE HE CAN REACH IS STARTING TO GO BALD. I DON'T SEE ANY BUMPS ON HIS BACK OR STOMACH. ANY ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Answer
Hello Brandy-

Your cat is suufeering from Feline Acne. This is very comon. The first thing to do is feed and water her from ceramic bowls they help to reduce bacteria.

Also, wipe his chin area with Witch Hazel. Witch Hazel is an astringent and will reduce the amount of oil produced by the glands on the chin. You may wash the chin area up to 4 (four) times per day. It is safe and effective. Also use the Witch Hazel to clean the blad patches of fur.

I make a specially formualted remedy for Feline Acne with which I have had much success. It is a Witch Hazel based tincture they help kill bacteria topically and also help to decrease oil production. I will leave my contact information at the bottom of this response if you are interested.

Add a supplement of Garlic powder to his food. Garlic is an anti-micrbial and helps to fight and kill bacteria and infection in the body. Don't be afraid to sprinkle it with a heavy hand, cats like the taste of Garlic and he should eat it right up. If there is a foreign bacteria present the Garlic will get rid of it. This is safe and effective treatment for daily long term use.

I hope this infromation has helped you and your pet.
