Texas Fleas and Cocker pup

Question
I have a rescued Cocker (mostly) 5 month old pup. I want to do everything right with this little guy. My vet wants me to put him on an expensive flea treatment because here in Austin, we have a TERRIBLE flea problem. I have him on Heartworm med monthly, but I need to keep the fleas off this little one. Can you tell me how much garlic, what type, etc to give a 15 lb. puppy? I hate putting stuff like Frontline on him, and besides, it doesn't keep them off him. Can you help me? Also, what's a really good dog food for him? Do you advise kibble or canned? I am giving him a couple of al dente cooked carrots a week. What else should I give him?

Answer
Deborah - I wish there were more MOMS like YOU!!!  You are doing a great job with this little rescued pup.  Cocker Spaniels are know for skin, coat and ear problems.... And, yes, the fleas are bad and can cause Anemia in a young pup.

I will make a number of Low cost suggestions for your baby.
All are safe and natural, too!

I have two companies that I refer many of my clients to :  NuVET and Nature's Sunshine - Both are quality and offer very fresh products shipped right from the main Manufacturing Plant.
With supplements you must think of FRESHNESS...or they may not work.
Don't buy the junk off the grocery store or Walmart - it may not be fresh at all.

Here we go:
First - A good food for your baby would be Innova PUPPY ( small Bites) or Wellness Formual ( puppy)-
YOU can go over to Innova EVO or Wellness Core when the pup is 11 months old.
Innova or Wellness can be found at most pet stores.
Excellent and will keep the VET away... ( we hope)

NuVET Plus - will help to build the immune system and Protect him from all the Skin and Allergy Problems that his breed tends to get ....
Here is the ordering link - The Cost is only .60 cents per day/
Also, helps protect, legs , joints and his hips, too...

Here is how you can use it:
Amazing -

Fleas - Use 10 drops to 8 oz. of water and spray on animal's coat as you rub it in. It will be good for their skin also. This needs to be done daily until the problem is under control in the home. After all fleas are gone you can put it in a spritzer bottle and give your animal a spritz all over once or twice a day if fleas are in the area.

Dandruff - Add Tea Tree to your shampoo for dandruff, dry or oily scalp, and itchy scalp. Use 10 drops to an 8 ounce bottle.

( not for Cats)
Cuts - Clean the wound and apply the Tea Tree Oil directly to the cut two to three times the first day. You can continue to apply the oil twice daily for up to seven days thereafter.

Use is very small dosages on CATS....
Lice - Mix five drops of Tea Tree Oil in a teaspoon of shampoo and wash the hair. Repeat this treatment twice daily until the lice are gone.

Again, Be careful with Cats....
Mites - Dogs can  get ear mites. They are not transmittable to humans, but infestations are very contagious with pets in contact with other animals. We have used TEA TREE OIL diluted. I use 10 drops in a tablespoon of olive oil (you can use another kind).

Then I take a small eyedropper and squirt it in one ear at a time, instantly covering the opening with the ear flap. I spend a full minute massaging the ear to keep the animal from shaking it all out before it gets into the ear canal and begins doing its work. Massage as long as you can and rub the animal's head to make it a pleasant experience so you can repeat this twice a day for a week. Consistency equals results.
