SPINAL INJURY

Dear Marie: I have a 10 yr old poodle mix who suddenly started wobbling with tail between legs and trembling. Took him to vet, had X-rays and blood test, placed on Prednisone and Clavamox for urinary infection for 1 month. Afterward infection cleared up and Surgeon looked at x-rays and saw anomaly in 5th vertebrae probably compressed nerve. Says 3 probabilities: Fungus; Tumor; Bacterial. In order to diagnose properly proposes exploratory surgery ($ 1,200) which I cannot afford. WHy wouldn't the bacteria and Fungus appear in blood test?  What can I do with natural medicine? I have been applying A treatment of topically rubbing Castor Oil and giving orally Bach Flower Rescue, Star of Bethlehem and Olive. He seems mostly relieved of pain but has not recovered his old mobility and rear leg strength even though he is able to walk, sometimes briskly but mostly lies down. He is also having some urinary incontinence and pees as he walks and poops without being able to assume squat position. Please advise. Thank you very much.

Wow, I can't ( I can) believe they want to do Exploratory surgery - they love to cut... great money.  As for fungus and bacterial, you are correct that something should show up in the blood work.  Also, a tumor will show up on an ultrasound or a cat scan.

Yes, I have some ideas for your boy. Sounds like you are doing a good job with the Bach Flower and others..
