Question
I have an 18 year old cat. For the past year he has begun scratching to excess, within a couple of months he hardly had any hair left (ears, head, back, legs, tail) and was full of scabs due to cutting himself badly when scratching/chewing at himself. His ears became full of wax/oil and he shakes his head constantly due to itchiness. I have taken him to the vet numerous times and even went for a second opinion. They did blood tests, skin scrapings, looked for mites/fleas/etc. They said they believed it was a food allergy - so we changed his food and kept him on a strict diet of it and his condition continued to worsen. He was on steroids and antibiotics for this three times to no avail. It was painful to watch. Finally in July I tried Tromos drops and an anti-itch wipe (brand name Petkin)and put him back on his old food. He began to get better, his hair was almost fully grown back, no itching,no wounds, etc. Unfortunately as of last week he has started to scratch again and is again causing open wounds and losing hair. I have never stopped the treatment. I have racked my brain trying to think if there has been any changes in the house of any kind and I can't think of any. I don't know what to do.

How about going over to the Hawaii pet chef???
You can try some raw feeding - I am not a big raw fan but cats tend to do VERY well.
