Question

Lacey & B
Marie,
The update on Lacey my little Chihuahua who cant breath well and has a congenital heart problem too...the Lasix seems to help..

She isnt better or worse as far as the unknown actual problem which is like she has something in her throat.

She seems to gag (which she does often ) WAY less often on the Lasix  however and maybe breath a little better too.HELPS at least.

The 4vets I have seen didnt seem to differentiate between a gag and a cough and all dismissed that symptom totally. She went from doing that once a month maybe like any dog... to 30 times a day.
Doresnt that mean somethings wrong?
Uses it to clear mucus.)

This gagging gets worse as the day goes on, progresses as if she gets more irritated

Did I tell you her tongue had starting sticking out all the time a week or so before this breathing thing started?
It hangs out usually 1/2 way always.... from not at ALL, EVER.

They all dismiss this too as some dogs do this.

I have changed pergo floor cleaners from dish soap and then  Lysol in spots, to vinegar in those spots, hoping it would be better for her lungs and I open windows often in case its allergys.
No difference
If I travel with her, no difference..

She is always full of energy and runs and plays never acts unwell
But I have to pick her up so she can breath sometimes as shes gasping while running ...until she calms down.

Her Breathing reminds me of someone sucking air through a straw after your milk shake is gone.

Frankly it aLL adds up to a blockage to me and irritation somewhere but they cant find anything.

The 4 vets that checked her didnt seem to think it Is her heart, lungs or trachea but didnt know what it was.

What was left to them was inflamed bronchial tubes but (2 antibiotics didnt help the broncs)

Basically all said they had no idea after that.
They can give her more extensive tests.

So Marie...we are still on lasix unless i can afford to get her thoughly tested...many hundreds more than I have already spent minimum another $600 for 2 more tests to rule more out but to me the antibiotics ruled that out anyway for less.

University of Missouri teaching vet clinic (only place in my state that gives the tests) isnt able yet to take my only credit card.I guess when they can... I can do more for her.
Thanks  once more for your concern
Roxanne.

Answer
Well, if the lasix helps, that is great.   If you think it is allergy related ?  Who know right? You can place this little one on the NuVET supplement powder:  it is an immune system booster and allergy blaster.
just 1/2 teaspoon per day:
see here:
1-800-474-7044  ( ask for the small 30 count bottle of NuVET powder - you can just do the 1/2 teaspoon per day and this bottle will last you 2 months.
( 1/2 teaspoon mixed into some wet food or cottage cheese)
Call in for the small sized bottle  the 30 count is around 20.00
Small bottles are not offered at the web site; you need to call in:
