QuestionHello,
I adopted two female guinea pigs approx a month ago and I noticed one of them, Gigi has ragged ears. There is a notch gone from one of her ears and a very tiny bit of black around the edges. I automatically assumed Reese's (the other pig) bit a chunk out of her ear but there is no blood or redness/irritation of any kind it's just missing. She still is active and eats a lot. No hooting. Maybe an occasional sneeze (one every day or two) Just wondering what might be happening. Thanks in advance-Mike
AnswerHello Mike,
I hate to say it but Guinea Pigs are not my area of expertise. I do know that the ear is sometimes notched as a means of identification, but that may not be the case. If the edges continue to get worse or if the area shows any rawness or open wounds, I would separate the two immediately and see if it continues to worsen. You may want to do that now.
In the meantime, I would go on line and research. Perhaps there is a Guinea Pig blog or organization, there are for everything else.
Hope this helped at least a little. If you find that it is a wound or infection or something, we make an ointment that we call Super Goop that may help heal it up. Call me at 727-327-2356 if you want some.
Take care,
Sue
