Emmie\'s wounds
Emmie's wounds
QUESTION: Hi Marie
We are wondering if you could help, with suggesting some natural therapy, for our dog.
This week she had two cancerious tumors removed, leaving large wounds.  She has recovered from surgery very well and the vet is happy with the margin around the tumors that he has been able to remove.  We will find out further lab results next week.  We are aware that the boxers are prone to tumors and are now looking to prevent any more appearing and give her the best chance to recover from these ones.  Emmie is 7 yrs old and otherwise in very good health.  She had chest xrays and blood tests done before surgery and they were both clear.
Look forward to hearing from you soon, so we can start with some natural therapy.
If you require any other information please let me know.
Regards Ros

ANSWER: Hi Ros, Did you have a biopsy prior to removel of the growths?
What kind of Cancer did they call the growth?
Wow, that is a large area they worked on...POOR kid.
Also, what food are you feeding and any supplements?

Get back to me and I will help.

QUESTION: Thanks for the response Marie
The vet took a needle biopsy that he looked at under the microscope and I don't remember his exact words but he said it was a cancerous tumor and that he couldn't tell at what stage by just checking under the microscope.  That is why he has now sent the biopsy of what he removed to the lab for further testing we will know next week. And I could let you know. She has been fed dry biscuits and a natural tin food (not the best).  No supplements.
And yes both wounds are very large he has put her on anitbiotics and pain killers.  She is such a good patient you wouldn't know there was anything done to her.  So at this stage we are hoping the vet has been able to remove the whole tumors, but would like to start her on a better diet and preventatives for further problems.
Cheers Ros

Answer
Wow, I bet she is just a wonderful companion!

Ok, How about some Grain-free dog foods..  I like the SoJo mixes because we add our own Fresh/Lightly Cooked meats.
My kids love the GREEN bag of SoJO ( the grain free one) and MOM is the Chef - adding my own meats.
I always cook my meats but many folks go raw.

SoJO sells to many countries...check them out here:

If you want - go to your local pet store and tell them you need to feed a GRAIN free food only - See what they have to offer you.

Also, Let's pop this kid onto a few supplements-
1.  A small amount of PURE garlic powder per day ( just 1 teaspoon into her food and mix well)  /This is a natural healer..
ONLY 1 Teaspoon per day

2.  Vitamin E (1) of a 150 IU per day - long term - Make sure your VET knows what supplements you are giving.  MOST vets don't mind the supplements and vitamins.

3.  Vitamin C (ESTER C ONLY ) - give 500 mg per day - LONG term.
Must be ESTER C - easy to digest.
GREAT healer and reduces inflammation.

4.  PURE salmon oil - give 1 tablespoon per day - mix into the food.
MUST be pure salmon oil / I like the Alaska Salmon oil..  YOU can get this in many pet stores or order on-line .

Ok, let's start with that list of Healthy and Low cost items.
I am sure you can get it all locally, I hope.
