Prednisone for Lymphoma canine ; pet nurse marie lymphoma herbs and supplements ;

QUESTION: Our 3 yr old basset/boxer has been recently diagnosed w/ Lymphoma,
fortunately we caught it very early on. We went to an oncologist to discuss
our options, and decided we would keep her as comfortable as we can until
she leaves us. We started her on prednisone about a wk ago(advised by our
vet). She is doing well on it, definitely drinking/going to the bathroom more,
but other than that she appears to be feeling well enough. I had a friend
suggest finding a more holistic approach to dealing w/ this disease...and I am
wondering if that is an option, and if so, would it benefit our dog's quality of
life?

ANSWER: Hello Nicole - Well, the steroid drug for Lymphoma can be harsh on the liver.  The benefits are large compared to the adverse effects.  I would stick with the Prednisone and ask for the lowest dosage possible.  Also, I would love to have your little one talking some supplements to help the Immune system.
