Question
My ~8 year old domestic shorthair FIV+ male cat (phew!)has had 2 ringworm infections within the last year. I currently have him on treatment with itraconazole and the ringworm lesions are healing after <2weeks but he has a HUGE plaque on his belly and now starting one at the juncture of front leg and body. Because of the FIV my vet is leery of steroid treatment and I agree. I have been giving him children's diphenhydramine which only helps while he is knocked out asleep with it. He has always been an assiduous groomer and I think a collar stresses him too much because he can't get to many areas. Do you have any suggestions for treating the lesions? Previous wounds he has had have always healed quickly. I have used gentian violet on cuts, etc. for all my cats-would it help. I hat seeing my buddy so uncomfortable and the sore is scary.

Answer
This is actually a fairly easy answer.  Go to my web site: http://www.critteroil.com and get a 1 oz bottle of Critter Oil.  If you can bathe him, use the shampoo formula and bathe him at least once a week, twice if possible. It kills ringworm. We have used it on cats and have had no negative reactions.

Also, if you can, put him on a raw food diet.  This will boost his immune system by putting him in proper upper pH. At the very least, find a grain free dry food such as Solid Gold's Indigo Moon.

If you need an ointment that will kill ringworm and heal lesions, etc., we make an ointment that we call Super Goop that is absolutely the healingest ointment on the planet.  Call me at my shop: 727-327-2356 and I'll mail it. We are working on putting up a naturalsforanimals.com site with holistic health products, but it's not done as yet.

You may want to research homeopathy or call Dr Gerald Wessner at 352-245-2025 (outstanding holistic vet who uses homeopathy extensively) for both the FIV and the ringworm.

That's about all. Keep me posted.
