Question
We have a ten year old female springer that has been vomiting off and on for a couple weeks now.
Now she doesn't want to eat and is just laying around alot. We plan to call the vet monday morn but is there anything easily digested that we can give he in the meantime?
Thank you

Answer
Hello Garry -

Without knowing or looking specifically at your pet I could not give you an accurate diagnosis. I am happy to hear your pet will be seeing the veterinarian tomorrow.

In the meantime, it sounds like some type of bacterial infection of the gut. The best suggestion I could give, is to add Garlic to your pets food. Garlic is an anti-microbial and will help rid the body of bacteria. Don't be afraid to sprinkle it with a heavy hand, dogs love garlic and will eat it up right away. The only slight draw back to adding Garlic to the pets food is flatulence. It may be a little stinky but the Garlic is doing its job. Anytime your pet becomes ill, add the Garlic to the food and it will help decrease bacteria levels and speed the recovery process. Should your veterinarian put your pet on conventional medication, continue putting Garlic in the food. It will aid the conventional medications on pushing the bacteria through the system faster.

As far as easily disgested food, I would suggest wet food. If you pet is not eating food at all, try giving her chicken or beef broth. She will at least be getting some vitamins and minerals into her system without the heavy burden of digestion. Add Garlic to the broth if she will not eat dry or wet food.

I wish your pet a speedy recovery and hope this information has helped you in caring for your pet.
