heartworms one last?

QUESTION: hello we recently adopted a dog from down south. when we picked him up he was soo thin. we took him to the vet for mange on his face and the vet confirmed mange dermodectic, and he was heartworm postive. the rescue offer to pay for a arsenic based treatment but w/ no guarantees due to his underweight and anemia. we put him on wellness food and nupro vitiamins and salmon loi. we decided to put him on the soft treatment for the heartworms by giving him heartgard for two years and hope it kills the life cycle of the worms (six months age he tested negative at the rescue). our vet is really upset that we did choose the arsenic treatment. his mange is improving with sulpher cream. do you have any advice?

ANSWER: Can you re state this again?  The vet is upset because?

QUESTION: the vet that is in massachusetts is upset that we went w/ the soft treatment (just heartgard). The vet that works w/ the southern rescue says this is an option for our dog because of his weight and anemia.however the massachusetts vet -where we live says it is not effective and only the arsenic based treatment will work . i am looking for any advice i can find.

ANSWER: Ok, I understand now - the Vet in Massachusetts is Allopathic and believes in the Harsh drugs/  which do work... just very dangerous for your situation.  YOUR pal is too weak and the immune system is shot.

QUESTION: major is also due for all his routine shots(rabies,dhl4pp,bordetella ) in the next few weeks - should he get all of these or just the rabies shot to keep him licensed in our town? i do not want to max out his system too much? thanks agian for your time- i looking for a holistic vet asap for him seems like a great solution!

Hi again - Don't give the bordetella unless he will be kenneled...This is for kennel cough and I don't like to give this unless you must.
Next, I would do the rabies and then tell the vet you want to wait 60 days before the next shots.  As to not overload all in one visit.
Tell them a Holistic pet nutritionist advised you of this.
Put the blame on me for this one.
