Question
QUESTION: Question
my dog black upper lip turned red/pink after to play with plastic toys .. please can you tell me an idea to care my dog...
thank you very much
gladys

ANSWER: Hello Gladys, :0)

As you may know, plastic is a petroleum based product which breaks down over time and puts out toxins which can cause allergic reactions and other sensitivities. It is imperative to throw away plastic toys and food and water dishes at least every 6 months and replace them with new.

I would recommend replacing food and water bowls with glass, stainless steel or crock bowls so that you don't have to replace them often. If your pet likes things like rope toys, heavy cloth squeaky toys, or sterilized natural bones I would go with one of those.

If eliminating plastics doesn't eliminate the problem, let me know and I will put on my thinking cap once again.

Thanks for writing.

QUESTION: thank you very much. i make olive oil on lips and make a mesages. is good idea?

ANSWER: It won't hurt. The massage will help increase circulation and help remove toxins. Getting her to drink as much water as possible will also help in removing toxins.

QUESTION: you have an other idea to make on my dog lips exemple another natural medicine ?

Answer
There may be an herbal lotion or cream available there which would be effective or one that is homeopathic but, unfortunately I have no idea what is available in Malta. I also don't know exactly what you are dealing with (open sores, inflammation, swelling or perhaps just a pigment color change not caused by the plastic at all) so it would be unwise of me to make a specific recommendation. Is there a holistic vet there, or perhaps a health food store or wellness center for people? Someone there may be able to refer you to someone locally who could actually look at your dog and go from there.

Is this a young dog? Pigment changes are not uncommon as dogs reach maturity. Are there any other symptoms other than pigment color changes?
