Question
QUESTION: my 10 year old airedale has a UTI, and kidney disease. she has had two sub-cutaneous fluid treatments, last two days, she's on two antibiotics. but today she's vomiting, has a blood in her stool, and now she won't eat anything, including the pills in the pill pockets. what do you suggest?

c

ANSWER: Clea, Oh, poor little Airedale !  Please call the vet about this blood in her stool.
Also, I am very concerned about her not eating.  What have you been feeding her?
I am sure the vet must have her on something special?

Can you give me a little more info?

QUESTION: i've tried everything lately--white rice, scrambled eggs, plain chicken, sweet potato, cottage cheese, homemade dog bisquits. i gave her a pepto bismo and then she seemed a bit better and had some american cheese, and her antibiotic. but now isn't even interested in the american cheese. she's drinking water and didn't have blood in her last stool.
the vet had recommended prescription diet, k/d, but i did a homemade regimen instead and she was doing well i thought--for the past year had no symptoms and then a few days ago--bam! she's very very sick.

Answer
Ok, see if you can get this into her:

Chicken Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
1/2 skinless chicken breast boiled ( cooked)  and shredded
1/4 cup steamed vegetables, cubed or grated up small to digest:
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish.
Add chicken and veggies.

or

Veggie Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup steamed vegetables, cubed - grated ( green beans / peas/ broccoli)
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish.
Add veggies.

I can give you some recipes for dogs with Kidney disease:
The above is just to get her eating....
If she gets better we can put her on a good diet and supplements.

BEST wishes!
