Lab Ear Infection

Question
I have a lab that continually gets ear infections.  I have taken him to the vets over and over again and it gets better for a month or so and then it returns over and over again.  We have tried all kinds of treatments and the only thing that actually helped for more than a couple of weeks was antibiotics (amoxcillin).  We wipe out his ears regularly but this is only a temporary fix.  Do you have any suggestions as to how to control this?  Thanks much!

Marie Peppers LPN MA Hi DEE - Yes, Labs and ear infections go "hand in hand"....  A very common problem for lab owners...

I would do 3 things for your kid...
-Gradual food change over to a grain free formula...
-add oils to the diet
- add supplements to the daily plan

1.  
At your local pet store please find Innova EVO or Wellness CORE -  the  two foods are so much better .... No grain ...
- YOU are what you  eat.... you know?  (
No grain helps dogs with ear infections)-

I would switch over slowly - mix the Old Food and the new food -
a 50/50 mix for 14 days - then go 100% to the new food.
You will be feeding much Less of the new food because it doesn't have any fillers in it... ( costs more but you feed less and poops will be Much smaller because there is no junk fillers.)

Also, Pure Salmon oil is great to add to the food each day - just drizzle some on top of the food...Good for shedding and skin health.
Great for the hips and joints, too!  
( about 2 teaspoons or 3, per day)

Use baby wipes to clean out ear.
You can use a  ear cleaner liquid ( from the pet store or VET ) and wipe clean 1 x per day with a  baby wipe...any  brand of Fragrance- Free baby wipes is fine.... I know you mentioned ear wipes...  Keep it up 1 x per day - don't go in far - the surface area is fine.
