My lap/shepard mix allergic to flea medicine

As it says in the subject line, my dog is allergic to flea medicine.  I rescued her in January, from an abandoned property....She had just had a litter of puppies, but they were no where around. (it was the day of our first big snowfall January 16th in Salisbury, Md.) She had heartworms so bad the vet didn't think she was going to make it through her first treatment. They estimated her age at 2.  She made it through her treatments with a couple scares.  (coughing up blood) She is now negative (by March) She has been fixed. I don't believe she ever had ability to be a puppy, cuz that's how she acts. Well, when flea season rolled around, I treated her, and I noticed she started to blister a few days later.  I try to put vinegar in her water, which she doesn't seem to mind, but, it is not working. (the vet recommended it.) He told me to try garlic as well, but I heard that was toxic to dogs, so I never tried it.  What would you suggest?  I bathe her every 15 days, which that can't be too good for her skin. I am at a loss, and it hurts me to see her constantly dig! If you could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Hi Mandy - Your vet was correct in offering Garlic.  It is only toxic to dogs that have blood problems and anemia.  Garlic works great as long as you give the correct dosage.
