Question
Hello and thanks for your time in advance. I have a three year old rescued Chihuahua mix and about three months ago she started losing hair around her neck. She has always been very healthy so at first, I thought her collar was to tight and I took it off for awhile. She kept itching, and she has no visible fleas, so I took her to her vet. He briefly glanced at her and said it was allergies and gave her two shots? and prescribed amoxi 100 & predisone 20 mg. He also done a blood draw & hemogram. Both neg. She continued to lose hair and itch. I took her back in two weeks and he said it was allergies and refilled the predisone. She Was 10 1/2- 11 lbs. when this started. She now weighs 17 lbs. because of all the predisone. She (Shadow Marie) sorry, continued to get worse and is miserable so I took her to another vet for a second opinion. This vet has checked her for ringworm, mange and done a skin scrape. All negative. This vet has had her on Ketoconazole Tab 200 mg, Simplicef  Tab 100 mg, Predisone (now down to 5mg)and Sebozole Shampoo. Nothing has helped. She is going bald. The woman who runs our animal control gave me some "Happy Jack" kennel dip and I even tried that. Nothing. Now her belly feels hard. I am going broke. I don't know what to do. Can you give a dog a laxative or can a dog become compacted to the point of toxicity? I looked at her skin and it looked like small blackheads and maybe even small blisters. I bought something called Miracle coat shampoo and Miracle coat spray with tea tree oil. No help. I have done everything but dip her in old oil. Any suggestions would be so welcome.  Thank You So Much.  Judy

Answer

Marie can help
Judy, this is so awful!  Poor little Shadow Marie!
I can't imagine what is going on except a poor immune system.  The Predisone makes a mess of her immune system and weight.
( as you know)

I can suggest a few low cost supplements and a new food for her:

As for a new food - How about you try some Innova EVO - mix this with the food you are currently using. You can do a 50/50 mix of the two foods....Make sure you find the EVO at the local pet store.
You feed very little of the Innova because it is condensed and has not junk fillers or grains.

Let me know how it all goes.... I do hope my suggestions help your Chi kid!!!!
