OVERWEIGHT TOY POODLE

Question

xmas
One of my toy poodles is overweight  She is close to 13 pounds, has been eating 3/4 cup in the am and 1/4 cup in the pm of Nutri Source weight management dog food for at least 4 years but is still getting bigger. She is 4 years old.   (I have two other who are fed and are similar in activity and are under 9 lbs).  I do not walk them (or her).  She goes out to potty in our huge yard and runs around every time she goes out (which is about 6-7 times a day.  We have three sets of stairs which she goes up and down at least 20 times a day. In the summer, she goes down 92 steps to the beach and runs the beach. She is not on any medication or supplements.  She has had no particular tests, as there never has been any health problems.  She is the parti poodle (the black and white) in the picture.  What should I do to get her weight down?

Answer
Carol, Thanks for the Wonderful photo of the Family!  So very cute!
I looked up your food:   Nutrisource Weight Management.
The ingredients and fat to proteins look fine.
I don't think you need to make a food change over at all.

LET's Just add some good supplements to this Poodle's diet.

Also, see if you can get her to eat some Green beans 1 x per day - at least 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup. Make sure you buy the green beans that are low salt or rinse the regular canned green beans before serving.  YOU can add a Dash of olive oil to the green beans:

If she continues to gain weight, you may want to have her blood tests for Thyroid problems.
Hope it is just her needing a good supplement and controlled treats.
